Thanks to all those that stopped to visit at this past weekends Chrysler performance show, March 6 & 7.

The 2nd Annual Brandon Hughes Memorial all Jr. Dragster race is scheduled for Sunday May 2nd this year. We have expanded the event a bit this year and combined it with the NHRA Jr. Dragster Challenge which will be contested Saturday May 1. The Challenge event will be run in conjunction with our regularly scheduled weekly Summit Points race. Look for a specific daily schedules as we get closer to the two day event. For Saturday we are looking  to start Jr. time runs at about 10 am, Jr. eliminations at 1pm, and finish the Jr. Dragster portion of the day's activities before we begin eliminations for the bracket program.

The National Hot Rod Association North Central Division, [ click ] has announced that the 2010 NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League North Central Division Championships will be returning to Bunker Hill Dragstrip in Bunker Hill, Indiana, September 11 & 12. The event will include fun activities on and off the track with practice and special races Saturday and the Division Champions in three age-group classes (8 & 9; 10-12 and 13-17) to be crowned on Sunday afternoon.  To be eligible for the event, racers must participate at any one of the NHRA North Central Division tracks during the 2010 season. Additional information will be posted this summer on further details of the event.

Sportsman Muffs For the immediate future we will not require mufflers on our sportsman cars. In the event that a specific Sportsman vehicle utilizes any device or equipment that would cause that vehicle to emit above normal exhaust noise, they may be asked to take remedial action to abate the excess emission. Sportsman racers we will have a drivers meeting about this at our first event, Saturday April 3rd. The e.t. bracket for Sportsman will remain at 7.50 and up, 1/8 mile.  Trophy will remain mufflers mandatory, as well as DOT tires, and e.t. bracket of 7.35 and up 1/8 mile.

Spots are rapidly being filled on the chassis certification schedule. Don't miss out, get your spot now. Hit the link above for more information.

E.T. Finals parking In all the excitement we forgot to mention that parking for team Bunker Hill at this years (2010) E.T. Finals will be at the rear of the west side staging lanes, behind the top eliminator stands, at the south end of the Winston Concourse. More info to come as it is needed.

The 2010 Bunker Hill Dragstrip Schedule has been mailed, Feb. 13th, to our primary data base of racers. If you are a Friday night test and tune racer, you should receive yours about the end of March. If you are not on our mailing list you can email me here at the track to request one. steve at bunkerhillrace.com

Erick Frazier & Molly Quillen are to be married on March 13th @ 4:30 pm. Anoka Church, 4890 East Co. Road 300 South, Logansport, IN 46947.    Reception following: Knights of Columbus, 1007 17th Street, Logansport, IN 46947     Bunker Hill Racers and friends are invited.

Street Bikes Update OSRBikes.com Street Bike Shootout at Bunker Hill Dragstrip will be a seven race series. These seven races are scheduled so as not to conflict with street bike races at Muncie Dragway or Ocseola Dragway.        Schnitz Pro Tree Bracket Series We have received sponsorship from Schnitz Motorsports Inc. that will enable us to run an inter-track 5 race series. Two races each to be contested at Bunker and Muncie, and one race at Osceola.    These races will be contested using a 0.4 (four-tenths) Pro tree with a dial your own elapsed time index. Payout for these races will be $1000 winner, $300 runner up, $60 semi-finalist. Payout based on 32 entries. Entry fee will be $60. Winner and runner up will also receive a trophy. Points will be scored at these five races to determine a series winner. These races will also score points for the tracks normal street bike series. More to come on this as it is still be formulated.

Quick 8 competition for 2010          As the economic conditions have put a strangle hold on sponsorship monies, we have had difficulties in securing support for our Quick 8 series here at Bunker Hill Dragstrip, for either Super Pro or Pro.       Even though it is very late in the sponsorship season, we will continue to explore any avenue of opportunity that may be presented.            Bunker Hill Dragstrip will continue to hold and promote a series of races for both Super Pro Quick 8 and Pro Quick 8.           There will be a few changes.            In each of the classes there will only be five races in the series, instead of the six that had been contested in the past.           Points will be scored, using the system that we have used in the past. Points chase winner and runner up only, will be awarded trophies at the 2010 racers awards party. Instead of a points money fund payout, there will be a Bunker Hill Dragstrip Gold Card awarded to the Quick 8 points series winner, in each, Pro and Super Pro.            This Quick 8 Gold Card will be for entry into the 2011 season Quick 8 races only, not valid for regular weekly events.                Race procedure and payout; Super Pro Quick 8 will remain as part of the Super Pro eliminator with the quickest 4 open wheel cars, and the quickest 4 bodied cars qualifying. Second round runners up (2 racers) will be afforded the opportunity to buy back into the full eliminator (3rd round) at the normal buyback rate, as consolation.         Quick 8 winner will be paid $300 plus will continue into round 4 of Super Pro Eliminator. The runner up will be paid $100, same as in the past, making the total purse payout $400 same as previous years.        Pro Quick 8 will be contested as a separate eliminator as it has been the last few years, with no additional entry fee. The Pro Quick 8 will be a winner take all $200.   A review of the Bunker Hill Dragstrip Pro Quick 8 requirements. Full bodied cars, with operating doors, and drivers location left of the driveshaft. Car must utilize original as manufactured body shell w/stock “A” post, ”B” post, and stock ¼ panels, trucks permitted.              Qualifying, Pro and Super Pro; a driver will be afforded one attempt at qualifying per qualifying session. This means that you must start, complete your burnout and make the attempted pass, in order for it to be considered a qualifying pass.        Qualified racers must dial within .10 of their qualifying time.  Weather and time constraints will dictate the number of time/qualifying sessions scheduled for an event.        For the Pro Quick 8 we will rotate the ladder structure, in order to provide variety to the races, in this manner; pro ladder, sportsman ladder.         Super Pro ladder will be a sportsman ladder with open wheel cars racing each other, and bodied cars racing, until the final.

Updates, 2010 Bunker Hill schedule.     As the 2010 schedule begins to come together in earnest, their are a few dates that can be released at this time.     Calling all Diesel Dragracers, time to cowboy up as we contest a diesel powered only, sportsman eliminator, tentatively set for Date Change May 22th. More details to come, and, this race will be contested along with our regular Saturday evening event.      We are very proud to be able to announce that the NHRA Division 3 Jr. Dragster Championship race is returning to Bunker Hill Dragstrip again for 2010. The all Jr. Dragster Division 3 race will be contested September 11th & 12th, with Jr. Dragster only test and tune available the Friday night before, Sept. 10.     Coming September 26th will be "Drags Not Drugs" High School race promoted by Denny Reed of Blufton, In. and sponsored by Lincoln Tech. $20,000 in scholarships will be up for grabs.      The 3rd Annual Olson Paint & Body Midsummer Wheelstand Contest, with Master of Ceremonies Brian Olson, hits the track the evening of June 19th. An added attraction at this years event will be professional wheelstander Jimmy DeAngelo and his 1951 Studebaker Wheelstanding Firetruck.      Old School Racing Bikes is the new sponsorship flag to be flown by Street Bike Shootout Sponsors Shannon and Bobby Clem. Dates and an added sponsor soon to be announced on this six race series.      July 31st and August 1st, The 3rd Annual Summer Sizzle two day bracket race, with the Jeg's Super Quick to be contested on Saturday. This is proving to be a must do mid season special event.       October 2nd and 3rd are the dates for the 14th Annual Hoosier Bracket Challenge two day money race.      On another note, there had been a plan that Bunker Hill Dragstrip would host the first NHRA Indiana State Championship Race in 2010. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts we are not going to be able to host this special traveling race this year, and it will default to Chandler Motorsports Park. Look for updates on this race forthcoming at NHRADiv3.

MAJOR RULES CHANGES FOR 2010, Some changes for 2010 for all classes:     All cars running 10.99 (*6.99 1/8 mile) seconds and quicker must have a NHRA accepted locking type dipstick on the transmission.                Drivers of all cars 7.49 (4.50 1/8 mile) and quicker will be required to wear a SFI 3.2A/15 jacket and pants or suit minimum; front engine open bodied supercharged or turbocharged will require a SFI 3.2A/20 jacket and pants; these changes for 2010 were noted in the 2009 Rulebook.                   Snell M2010 helmets will be permitted wherever M2000 or M2005 helmets are permitted.  The SA2010 spec is not yet available.                       SFI 16.5 driver restraint systems will be permitted anywhere a SFI 16.1 driver restraint system is required.  The SFI 16.5 specification has some additional testing requirements beyond those of SFI 16.1.                   The SFI 25.3 Tube Chassis Roll Cage specification will be included for many full bodied applications.  SFI 25.3 is for 6.50 seconds minimum at 3600 pounds maximum.  It will be primarily used by the ASOs for their fast street car classes.                   All motorcycle and snowmobile riders must utilize gloves that are leather and be either Kevlar-lined or equipped with slide buttons.               These are the only significant changes for the ET sections, including Top Sportsman and Top Dragster, of the Rulebook

As we work our way through the winter off season, a few things for your consideration. NHRA chassis certification day Bunker Hill Dragstrip will be Saturday, April 3, 2010. Chassis certification is required for cars running quicker than 6.40 e.t. 1/8 mile. Certification is performed by an NHRA inspector, an appointment is necessary. You may make an appointment by email to steve at bunkerhillrace.com The following information will be needed: type of car, car owner with contact phone number, and preferred time of day for your appointment. There are some interesting chassis certification guidelines at NHRADiv3.       Street Bikes Shannon and Bobby Clem, OSR Bikes & Motors, have stepped up again to sponsor the 2010 Street Bike Shootout 7 race Series. The series is tentatively set for the third Saturday of each month of the racing season.      Racing Fuel We have been approached by a local manufacturer of E-85 racing fuel, to be a distributor/local supplier. The quality of this manufactures fuel is much higher and more consistent than what is available at your local c-store. We need to know if there is any interest in this type of fuel, again contact me at the above address. We have a weekly points racer that has switched to E-85 and has saved millions of dollars on his fuel budget, and still goes real fast too.

Oil containment device update There has not been an implementation date established at this time.  Engine Oil Containment Device. May be effective ?whenever?. We will keep you updated as this develops.    Any vehicle participating in an NHRA E.T. race/program, with a performance of 6.39 or quicker, 1/8 mile, will be required to have in place an NHRA accepted lower engine oil retention device. (Non SFI)      We would look for this requirement to be implemented over the next few years to include all vehicles running 7.49 or quicker, 1/8 mile       Bunker Hill Dragstrip highly recommends the DRE Dennis Ridgeway Enterprises, Inc. product. You can get more information at the DRE website

If you have been a Dial for Dollars winner, Race of Champions, King of the Track, or otherwise listed as a winner on this page, you are eligible for the NHRA Be a Winner Be a Member program.

Rain/weather points/purse split. In the event that we open the gates with questionable weather conditions, or have a weather situation during a race, the following will be the policy. No race, no points. If no race is run there will be no points scored. In the event of weather/rain interrupting/stopping a race, and once an elimination pair go down the track, regardless of category, those racers in attendance will be scored entry points.     In the event of weather/rain interrupting/stopping a race, a complete round of competition, for that class/category, must be completed, for any racer to score round win points. i.e: Class one completes a round of competition, points will be scored, class two only has 50% of the round completed, no points scored for that class.      Purse payout/split. In the event of weather/rain stopping a race we will split the purse. If less than 50% of the round has been completed we will revert to the last completed round for purse split payout. If we have more than 75% of the round completed, we may split in a manner that pays the winners, and the racers remaining to race the interrupted round. The object is to be as fair to all remaining racers as possible.

Dial for Dollars Dial for Dollars will continue for 2010, and we will continue with the runner up award. The Dial for Dollars winner will have the option of taking the money, 1/2 of the purse, or being put on the bye. The runner up would receive  the other. This bye would be this racers to keep until they used it, or were no longer in eliminations. You cannot win the "on the bye" from another racer. Once the Dial for Dollars bye has been used we will revert to random draw for sitting on the bye, until the computer forms a ladder, qualified by reaction time. We realize that sitting on the bye can be tedious at times, so therefore, we would allow a racer to refuse such an opportunity, and we will find another.           Double entries and the bye. We have on a couple occasions pulled a racer that was double entered, to sit on the bye. In order to clarify, this would be the house rule; If a racer is double entered, and is pulled by random draw, to sit on the bye, said racer will race the vehicle that he presented at the front of the staging lanes, and then bring their second entry to the front of the lanes to sit on the bye. This will keep the event flowing in an orderly manner, and removes the waiting for a racer to return from a run, to make his second pairing.

Reminder for the Pro category     This is a direct quote from the 2010 NHRA rule book (Section 20, General Regulations, Sub-section 8:2, page 20.30) and will be enforced here at Bunker Hill Dragstrip. Concerning the wiring, we will allow a one week grace period in this matter, but a racer receiving this grace period will be closely scrutinized throughout the event. "In categories that prohibit Delay Devices .....Wiring may consist of a single (i.e. "one" or "1") continuous wire from a power source to a switch (or button), and a single continuous wire from the switch to the trans brake or line-loc solenoid. One splice (no quick disconnect) is permitted from the two-step to the solenoid (i.e. between the switch and the solenoid). All switches, buttons, wiring, solenoids, ect. must be for normal automotive use; i.e. not intended to create a delay ( adjustable or non-adjustable) between release of the button, and the resultant action of the solenoid. All line-loc / trans-brake wiring before and after the switch must be separate from any other wiring and fully visible. Computer wiring, sensors, relays, and the like may not be wired to the solenoid wiring. Two-steps or other rev limiters that are adjustable by thumbwheel, replaceable chips, and the like may not be within the drivers reach and will be preferably be located outside the driver compartment." And the rulebook continues on with the consequences and remedies. Suggested reading for all competitors.
